Energy Storage Cooling: Liquid Cooling vs Air Cooling – Pros & Cons
2025-05-10
In the world of energy storage systems, temperature control is crucial, which directly affects the performance, safety and service life of the equipment. At present, the mainstream heat dissipation methods on the market are air cooling (air cooling) and liquid cooling. Many companies face a problem when choosing energy storage systems: should they choose air cooling or liquid cooling? Which one is more cost-effective? Which one is more worry-free?

This actually involves two levels: "energy consumption of the heat dissipation system" and "the impact of temperature control on system efficiency and life".
Air-cooled energy storage system:
- Simple and crude, relying on fans to blow heat, simple structure, low power consumption;
- Limited cooling capacity in high temperature or harsh environment, large temperature difference of battery cells;
- Although "power-saving", it is easy to cause rapid battery aging and system instability.
Liquid-cooled energy storage system:
- The coolant directly contacts the heat source, and the temperature control is more accurate;
- The battery cell temperature is uniform, the operation is more stable, and the cycle life is longer;
- The power consumption is slightly higher (generally the overall system efficiency decreases by 1~2%), but in return it is higher system safety and long-term benefits.
How to choose an energy storage system?
If you are a small-scale, cost-sensitive customer, such as a small energy storage project on the user side, choosing air cooling can reduce initial investment and operating energy consumption.
But if you are doing high-demand projects such as large storage, industrial and commercial heavy load, integrated photovoltaic storage, and auxiliary service markets, liquid cooling systems perform better in terms of efficiency, life, and safety, and slightly higher heat dissipation energy consumption is a "safety" worth investing in.

129kWh BESS Cabinet: Complete Guide to Capacity, Components, Applications and Sizing
One of the first questions homeowners ask when considering solar storage or backup power is: How many batteries to run a whole house? It sounds like a simple question, but the answer is different for every home. A battery system that works well for a small house with basic backup needs may not be enough for a larger property running air conditioning, electric heating, or an EV charger.
How Many Batteries to Run a Whole House? A Practical Home Battery Sizing Guide
A typical 129kWh BESS cabinet contains much more than battery cells. Inside the enclosure, multiple systems work together, including battery modules, Battery Management System (BMS), high-voltage protection units, Energy Management System (EMS), cooling equipment, fire protection devices, and communication components. Each part has a specific role in maintaining safe and stable energy storage operation.
